Bye Bye Internet, here comes GooGizon!
Here is an article detailing how fucked we are with net neutrality: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/craig-aar ... 76194.html.
Here are the highlights:
1. Under their proposal, there would be no Net Neutrality on wireless networks -- meaning anything goes, from blocking websites and applications to pay-for-priority treatment.
2. Their proposed standard for "non-discrimination" on wired networks is so weak that actions like Comcast's widely denounced blocking of BitTorrent would be allowed.
3. The deal would let ISPs like Verizon -- instead of Internet users like you -- decide which applications deserve the best quality of service. That's not the way the Internet has ever worked, and it threatens to close the door on tomorrow's innovative applications. (If RealPlayer had been favored a few years ago, would we ever have gotten YouTube?)
4. The deal would allow ISPs to effectively split the Internet into "two pipes" -- one of which would be reserved for "managed services," a pay-for-play platform for content and applications. This is the proverbial toll road on the information superhighway, a fast lane reserved for the select few, while the rest of us are stuck on the cyber-equivalent of a winding dirt road.
5. The pact proposes to turn the Federal Communications Commission into a toothless watchdog, left fruitlessly chasing consumer complaints but unable to make rules of its own. Instead, it would leave it up to unaccountable (and almost surely industry-controlled) third parties to decide what the rules should be.

Calm down, it won't happen, or at least it shouldn't.
All Google is trying to do is protect its self, just in-case net neutrality doesn't become a law in the United States. Google is simply the largest consumer of broadband in the world, and if net neutrality fails, Google would be the biggest loser out of anyone. It is in their best interest to keep it alive, and they are actually the largest supporter of it.
The argument about Realplayer vs Youtube actually proves my point. Youtube didn't become popular because of Google, they bought it because their own service "Google Videos" failed to take off. Youtube made it's mark while it was still owned by some unknown guy, they didn't even have advertisements back then. Youtube became as large as it did because of net neutrality, not in-spite of it. Realplayer simply failed, because you had to install it's software, and it became known as nuisance-ware. Over bloated, and annoying is a recipe for failure.
Just because you hope the world won't come to and end, doesn't stop ya from buying guns just in case it does, right?
I wouldn't worry to much, unless you dumbasses down there re-elect the Republican party back into office. Because Obama and his Democrats support net neutrality. The Republicans on the other hand don't, and it's actually senator McCain who introduced the bill to block net neutrality in the first place. Just something to think about if you care.

Don't freak out to much about it unless like Ultimate said about those idiot republicans who want to sensor everything.
as fo you tube: I went to high school with Jawed Karim who is one of the founders of youtube.
Founded in 1883, Central High School was the first high school that was built in MN.
I also went to school with Nick Swardson (actor). he was 2 years ahead of me. Funny, he used to watch me play footbal. Now I watch some of his movies.
also, Richard M. Schulze the founder of best buy graduated there along with Dave Winfield who was a pro baseball player. My mom went to school with him too.
Charles M. Schulz the famous Peanuts gang cartoonist.
John Roethlisberger, three time Olympic gymnast
Amelia Earhart attended school there before her family moved to Chicago.
For those who enjoy science fiction, Thomas M. Disch went there too.

I am not sure about the details of this proposal. So what you are saying is that it is preferable to have big brother (FCC) watch over and regulate us rather than private industry. I sure as HELL don't trust the Huffington Post for correct info. Not sure about all of the details, but I am a libertarian and I want the fucking government out of my shit. I would rather have a choice, I can choose one ISP or another if they suck I will fire them and move on. This will work fine if we can stay out of a single provider (monopoly) situation.
I agree Sensui that those consequences would not be good in anyway, but I am wondering if there is another side to the story.
Whats to stop the government from doing the same thing and routing traffic in directions that politicians think are more important.

You want the government to stay out of shit but yet when there are no jobs you want them to create jobs.
Oil spill and you want them to clean it up.
fire at your house you want them to put it out.
crime in your neighborhood, you want them to arrest people.
you want banks to stop fucking every one, you want regulations.
you want reliable food and drugs, they have the FDA.
Kinda of funny how people like you want them to stay out of everything but yet you want them to do everything.
Monopolies are the thing of the past...oh wait another thing government put an end to.
you dont want them out of your shit. Just out of things you're against and there for things you want.

Fuck no! The only jobs the government can create are government jobs that I have to pay for.
"Oil spill and you want them to clean it up."
The Oil spill is BP's deal they need to clean it up.
"fire at your house you want them to put it out."
Hell Yes! This is the Governments job. (Maybe insurance should reimburse though)
"crime in your neighborhood, you want them to arrest people."
Yes. Protecting rights is the governments job.
"you want banks to stop fucking every one, you want regulations."
I want less regulations. I have a choice to change banks. I do believe in full disclosure though.
"you want reliable food and drugs, they have the FDA."Gray area, but yes I think the FDA has a purpose.

I want the government out of my shit. Don't tell me I have to wear a seat belt. Dont tell me I cant smoke dope if I am not hurting anyone. Dont tell me I have to pay a tax so someone else can sit on there ass. I want them to protect and serve.

Sounds like your just a scared whinny bitch. I wouldn't blame you after the fear that has been instilled into every one in the last 8 years.
Fact is, people are too stupid to manage their own lives. Ther are expections but this is a generalization.
When the government tells you to jump, you ask how high and thank them. LOL

Re: Bye Bye Internet, here comes GooGizon!
How do you equal the government being in your shit vs in these mega companies shit in this situation? The government is not going to impose anything that would change the internet. This would simply be protecting one of the founding principles of the internet. If Net Neutrality is not protected, then the internet will simply vanish as we know it. It will become nothing more than a high tech cable feed, where these large corporations can force whatever they want down your throat for their own personal gain and profit.Torched wrote: I want the government out of my shit. If you truly believe that large corporations should be protected over the peoples right to choose, then you are nothing more than a brainwashed sucker. Corporations are not people, they are organizations who's only goal in life is to make a profit anyway they can. Morals mean nothing to them, and if you want to trust the future of free speech, freedom and the right to choose to them, then you will quickly discover, they just don't give a fucking shit about your rights at all.
Have you forgotten what happens when you allow uncaring large corporations to regulate them selves? Can someone say economic/housing crash? When will you people get it? The rights of the people should always come before the rights of greedy companies who could care less about your rights. These are the same fuckers that ship your customer service calls to India, so you can wait on hold for an hour to talk to some retard who can't even speak English or understand your problems. Americans are losing their jobs, and along with it their entire lives, so they can save a couple bucks, and you want them to decide what you can or can't do on the internet?
They sucker you into thinking that regulation is somehow taking away your rights, but if you actually buy that crap, then you deserve to lose your rights for being so ignorant to the truth. They will try to trick you into thinking this is the government trying to force on you what they want, but the truth is the opposite. It is these large phone and cable corporations that want to force their ways on you.
Protecting Net Neutrality, is nothing more than protecting your individual rights to choice and freedom.
