Many have tried, and many have failed. The ps3 has remained totally unahcked....until. On the morning of the 19th of August 2010 we recieve a package at our store with a little software dongle, and a instructions on how to get it working.
We had been hearing scene rumors of something like this in the works, but of course until we actually get our hands on it its all a bunch of words that mean nothing. Well here are 3 videos we posted on youtube of it working.

The little tiny donlge called PS Jailbreak allows you to dump all of your original PS3 games onto a FAT32 harddrive, and play the game directly from there.
FAQ:
Q: What firmware version does PS JailBreak it work on?
A. It apparently works on a couple of old firmware verisons, but it was designed for the latest firmware version 3.41
Q. Does PS Jailbreak allow you to dump ps2 games, ps1 game, Blu ray movies?
A. No, just PS3 games.
Q. Does PS JailBreak allow every game to work?
A. Apparently 150 games have been tested, and they all work. If a game happens to have 1 file over 4gb the program will not be able to rip the game onto the harddrive. Apparently the worl around is to dump it on an internal hardrive
Q. Can I still play online with PS Jailbreak?
A. When today (19.08.2010) you can, we can't guarantee you will never be banned for using the 3rd party device.
Q. Can Sonly block this with firmware updates?
A. Probably. The have have the USb dongle firmware upgradable, but you can never predict the future. This is made to work with 3.41. If you happen to download an install an update which is higher then this then it is your doing. We will not accept stock back as "faulty" if you have upgraded your firmware

Sony obtains ban on PS3 'jailbreak' hack

Sony has won an injunction preventing three Australian distributors from selling a world-first hack that allows PlayStation 3 owners to run pirated games on the console.
The company will tomorrow seek a permanent ban in a case that will be closely watched by the games industry worldwide. Games console makers have spent years battling in court to have the so-called "mod chips" banned from sale.
The Australian online retailers OzModChips.com, Quantronics.com.au and Modsupplier.com, which sell the hardware hacks for all of the major games consoles, have been blocked by the Federal Court from selling the PS Jailbreak, described as the "world's first PS3 mod chip".

Judge Julie Anne Dodds-Streeton issued the temporary ban ahead of a hearing tomorrow morning where Sony will make its case for a permanent block on sales.
Unlike mod chips for other consoles, which require users to break open their consoles and install a new chip with a soldering iron, the $170 PS Jailbreak is a simple USB dongle.
It converts the PS3 into a "debug" unit enabling users to install pirated, copied and homemade games on to the console's hard drive.
This is the first time the security of the PS3 has been broken and the injunction requires the distributors to hand all of their stock of the device to Sony. The company will then have licence to analyse the chips and work on a way of blocking them, with Justice Dodds-Streeton's order allowing for even "destructive analysis".
But updating the PS3 to disable the hack may be futile as the makers of the PS Jailbreak say it can also block Sony's mandatory firmware updates. However, Sony has already begun banning PS3 owners who have installed the hack from playing online through its PlayStation Network.
Mod chip proponents say they are the only way to play homemade or "homebrew" games but game companies including Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have been battling to have them banned as they facilitate game piracy.
Earlier this year an Australian distributor, RSJ IT Solutions, was ordered by the Federal Court to stop selling the R4 mod chip for the Nintendo DS and pay Nintendo half a million dollars in damages.
But since mod chips can be used for more than just piracy they are still a legal gray area in Australia. In 2005, the High Court ruled that it was legal to mod chip the original PlayStation consoles so as to play games sold outside Australia.
The court found that just playing a game on a PlayStation using a mod chip was not making an illegal copy of the game.
In the US, modifying technology products to enhance their functionality is considered fair use.
A hearing on the PS Jailbreak matter is scheduled in the Federal Court in Victoria for 10:15am tomorrow morning. Sony Australia declined to comment today.
In an online forum posting, one of the distributors named in the he court case, Quantronics, said the injunction was "baseless" and it was "very unlikely", it would be continued or become permanent.
"We started in this industry as kids with a thought towards changing the countries [sic] views on copyright law, fair use and freedom," the post read.
"To this day, we stand for the same beliefs, values and will at any cost fight for what we believe in, the rights we should have and in a david vs goliath battle, we will give it our best."
In a posting on its website, OzModChips.com said the court case "sets a dangerous precedent" that will affect gamers worldwide.

Meanwhile, the Intellectual Property Awareness Foundation has launched a new national advertising campaign against piracy that asks Australians if they are "accidental pirates".

Did you buy it Strider? Watching the video, I think the process is cumbersome to do. I rather support the developers and buy the game at a cheap price.
