What utilities do you use for gaming ETC

Post by Shakira »

Wondering what does everybody use for gaming and defrags...cleaners..the works on their computers

Iver heard
Glary utilities and ccleaner are great for Registry errors....

Gamebooster..shutting down unnecessary background tasks while gaming...also has a built in game defrag which is pretty nice...

MSE microsoft security essentials...does work for system protection spyware and viruses...
malewarebytes...used it for awhile now and its great...

Thats about it....

What others can people reccomened for an older system...

I got my degree in computer network engineering and learned how to do all that crap withot 3rd party programs that can give you virus and other nasty crap. :D

there is also software from www.wisecleaner.com that cleans up your registry and disk. It does a real good job and is safe. check out http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals for more utilities that are safe.

SSD's do not defrag so if you have one do not waste your time.
basic disk cleanup in windows 7 works well.

proper way to defrag- (do this after all you disk and registry cleaning is done)
If you do not have a SSD, before you defrag, set you page filing to 0 and then restart in safe mode. run defrag and disk clean up in safemode. once it is finished set you page filing back. max is 4096 for windows xp. I recommend having system set if if you are not sure what to have it at. start back into active mode and you are good to go.

You can set exclusions in most antivirus software for programs and processes.

Msconfig is the basic command to view startup processes and programs that run in the background when you start your computer. allow all MS to run then you will see other things. If you know what they are uncheck them. If you are not sure, leave them alone and check it out online to see if you need it or not.

you will see things like quicktime, adobe, java that can be unchecked. Most programs are actually running as a process.

See that is what i was using some ccleaner and using auslogics defrag....

Thanks mongo

I do know about the ssd no defrag other than disc cleanup....
It wears the life of the SSD and because of TRIM it helps keep the ssd in order?

Ill look into the Windows sysinternals...

Any more put them out there

One of the biggest complaints about CCleaner is that it doesn't cover areas that other programs do so there's now an addon that adds over 500 others called CCEnhancer. Read about and get it here: http://thewebatom.net/software/ccenhancer/

I have used nothing else to "clean" my PC other than CCleaner ever since I discovered this addon.
