Hard drive wiped clean !

Dont know what happened but,on wed. my computer screen froze.Tryed to re start but all it said was no hard drive detected.Tryed reformat,,notting.Called brother inlaw said he had a old computer and just bring the hard drove over and hell look at it.He had two hard drives in his old computer and they where wiped clean sys he has never seen anything like this before but he was able to reformat once he took my drive out. Anyone know what would cause this and if i can save my old drive ?

Thanks for the replys guys. Brother inlaw gave me one of his old drives .Smashed the shit out of the other one .Its time the Schwein sells some bacon and get a new system.

It is not a matter of if your drive will fail but when it will fail. Always back up your shit. Sometimes the drive will start to make noise before it goes. If you had a second drive you could reinstall your OS on that one then once it is installed slave the old drive to see if it can be recognized. You could try to put the old drive into the freezer for a few hours then slave it. Sometimes this works long enough to get the data off of it.

If you want to get your files back try "File Scavenger" though it's not free.

If a drive is dead then it is dead. Software can't recover a dead drive. Only other option is a file recovery company that will take the drive apart and read the discs.
