You're so full of shit Gonzo.
$250 was pretty much the standard price for game consoles up until ps3 and xbox360. If you were alive and or old enough then you would have paid that much for a nintendo. I think we paid $200 for ours back then. It was about a year or 2 after it was released so it was cheaper.
We had that top feed VHS player too. it had a remote that had a 15ft cable that you plugged it into. we even had the fancycover for it so that the dust would keep out of it. It was nice to have the remote because you could set the vcr to change channels on the tv and if you didnt have a clicker for the tv then at least you could use the vcr to change the channel.

LOL

My first PC was back around 1990.
It was an AMSTRAD 386-SX Low Profile.
Had 20Mb HDD, 20Mhz CPU, 1MB RAM (I upgraded to 4)

Image

Then I added this in around 1994:

Diamond Monster 3D 3dfx Voodoo1 4MB PCI
Image

The CARD that started it all !!!!!! I remember QUAKE, HAVEN, TOMB RAIDER etc - VOODOO 3DFX rocked ! I think it cost me around $300-$400 bucks back in 94 or so.

Luv it!

I actually own 3 computers, but I will list my most powerful machine, where all my DoD:S action takes place. :D

Instead of listing everything, I just did a CPU-Z Validation. Feel free to check it out.

Image

For more details: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1369208

For monitors I have a BenQ 22" Widescreen (1680x1050) as my primary and a Dell 17" Fullscreen (1280x1024) as my secondary display.

My case is a Cool Master 690 II Advanced (http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6638) This case rocks, very clean on the inside, and plenty of room to hide those ugly wires. And has the added bonus of being very affordable, features only found on $200+ cases for around $100.

Cooling solution: Zalman CNPS9700LED. When I bought this it was considered the best heatsink on the market. I am planing on upgrading to water cooling some time in the future. The Swiftech H20-220 kit is at the top of my wish list right now.

I am also planing on upgrading my CPU to one of AMD's new 6-cores in the near future, as I heard they overclock very well. Stay tuned... :)

---

My first computer was a Commodore Vic20 hooked up to the family TV, but my first full computer system was a Commodore 64. My pops bought me the full system with a desk, monitor, cassette-tape drive, floppy drive and speakers. I mention this, because I plan on buying one of the new replica machines Commodore is bringing to market soon. http://pc.gamespy.com/articles/111/1116901p1.html. It will become my new TV computer. LMFAO, I "LOVE" it!

<3 Zalman. I'm using the same cooler right now and it's quite awesome. Maybe some day I'll dabble in the water-cooling business.

Good luck with the 6-core, mate. Let us know how it goes.

I don't quite remember all the specs of my first computer at this time, but I remember when we went to the store to upgrade to a 4.26 GB hard drive. Shit, I never thought we'd fill that up. And now I have a multi-terabyte file server sitting next to my gamin rig.

I remember the first custom PC/IBM Clone I bought, and I picked up a 100MB HD, at the time I thought I was King shit. Back in the days when HDs cost $1 a MB. The OS (MS-DOS & the newly invented (experimental) Windows) didn't even take up 10MB combined. Oh how times have changed. Soon enough we will be dabbling in Petabyte drives and wondering how we ever survived with Gigabyte drives at all... LMFAO

I remember when we picked up a 40MB SCSI like HD for the IBM CLONE 8088 that needed an added riser card (most did, but it was bigger than the average card), which was 2500 bucks. I assume it was scsi cause it looked like the huge 50 pin ribbon but it could have been bigger. The dam HD was as big as the PC case. So PUN with 100MB you were king shit!

I'm curious to know what computers are going to be like in one to two generations. Us "old timers" are still going to be rocking face on DoD:S when the little whipper-snappers are going to be doing live-action 3D shit or something.
