New G card or hold out for a whole new rig.

Post by +Desert+Fox+ »

I've basically got a dell dimension 1100 with a Radeon 9250 (256Mb) with latest version of ATI drivers, running XP. Also 2 gigs of RAM a refurbished hard drive and a 1 terabyte external. In order to play some of the other games I have it requires a card that supports DirectX 9 and or shader model 3.0. Apparently mine does not. Would it be wise to replace the card with a better one which can support these games or hold out for a whole new computer?

I would look for another card. your wattage may be to low to get a new card though. You can always put it in a new machine.
Also get rid of that refurbished HDD. It will go out again. Strip the external drive and put it in your box. or get a new one and then later you can put it in a new machine.

That has a pentium 4 in it and it holds a max of 2GB of RAM. I wouldn't put any extra money into it since it is outdated.

For graphics
I would go with a 2000 series radeon....
They are pretty cheap i think best buy has some that will fit your directx9 even directx10
You might be able to get this to work on that psu....

In all though i would just save up to get a newer computer (better processor but it depends on what games you want to play really)
